HOUSTON'S REPIPE SPECIALIST

RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL

If your home or business was built in the 1960s or earlier, there’s a good chance it has galvanized, iron, or steel piping, which was commonly coated with zinc to help prevent corrosion and rust. While these older materials were once standard, over time they can weaken, crack, and deteriorate, leading to potential leaks and water damage. Galvanized pipes are particularly prone to rust buildup, which can restrict water flow and cause frequent plumbing issues. At HEXAGON Plumbing, we specialize in repiping services to replace these outdated systems with more reliable and durable options, ensuring your property is protected and your water system functions efficiently.

Once the top choice for all water supply pipes, copper has been nudged a bit to the side by flexible pipes made from cross-linked polyethylene, “PEX” for short. While copper still plays an important role in water pipes for new construction, PEX pipe is quickly becoming the choice for remodeling and retrofitting

PEX piping, or cross-linked polyethylene piping, is a flexible plastic tubing used for plumbing systems, known for its resistance to corrosion, ease of installation, and ability to withstand high temperatures.

Copper pipe, all though more expensive than PEX has a life-span of 50-70 years and can withstand temperatures of (- 40F to 400F).

Frequently Asked Questions

PEX pipe, or cross-linked polyethylene pipe, is a flexible and durable type of plastic piping commonly used in plumbing and heating systems. It is popular for its ease of installation and resistance to freezing, making it a preferred alternative to traditional metal pipes.

  • PEX-A: This pipe provides the most flexibility and is suitable for all water supply plumbing needs. It is also the most resistant to freeze cracking. PEX-A pipes are manufactured using peroxide.
  • PEX-B: PEX-B pipes are great for pools since it has increased chlorine resistance. These pipes also have great coil memory, returning to their original shape when they expand.
  • PEX-C: PEX-C plastic pipes are the lowest in price compared to the other two, but they may crack in freezing temperatures. It’s also the least flexible, so it is not commonly used

PEX is the preferred method of piping replacement only because of its ease of installation, cost and 30-50 year lifespan; however, PEX is sensitive to UV Light, susceptible to rodents and a low probability of leaching.

Copper piping can be substantially more expensive than PEX, in both materials and installation.  The cost of copper pipe alone has risen 58%-68%, mostly because of its recycle value.  A copper pipe installation can last much longer, 60-70 years versus its PEX counterpart but is also more susceptible to freezing at 32F.
