Tankless Water Heaters, Combi-Boilers, Boilers, Water Treatment
Cost-effective tankless hot water heaters ideal for a wide variety of commercial applications:
Our team of NAVIAN Certified Technicians is here to help managers, general managers, and owners keep their hot water systems properly maintained and running smoothly.
A water heater expansion tank—or thermal expansion tank—is a small tank added to a water supply pipe. It acts as a safety device and minimizes the risk of pressure damage, bursts, and leaks in a home’s plumbing system.
It activates when expanded hot water overflows from the main tank and pushes against an air cushion within the expansion tank, compressing the cushion and allowing water to flow in.
This alleviates the pressure of thermal expansion by giving the excess hot water a place to go. It also helps maintain consistent water temperature and pressure flowing through your home’s taps.
A hot water recirculating pump attaches to your water heater. It circulates hot water throughout your pipes to keep it readily available at the faucet. It’s affordable and doesn’t waste water.
Many systems turn on and off automatically to keep the water within a specified temperature range. Others run on a timer. Both options use less energy. than a continuously-running system.
According to the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC), studies suggest that “over 10 percent of all the hot water drawn for showering in a typical single-family home is wasted waiting for hot water to arrive.”
Much of the water sitting in those pipes was once heated. Without a recirculating pump, it’s left in the pipes to cool. That’s a lot of water, energy and money down the drain.
When selecting a water filter, it’s important to choose one that effectively removes sediment. Cartridge-style filters are often the most efficient, but you’ll need to incorporate regular filter replacement into your maintenance schedule. Smaller inline filters can be installed just before a tankless water heater, while whole-house filters are designed to remove sediment as it enters the home’s water supply.
Filters are typically rated based on their rejection ratio, and there are three main types of ratings:
Absolute filters provide the highest level of filtration, making them ideal for homes with a higher risk of bacterial contamination.
Nominal filters focus on removing larger particles and are at least 85% efficient. The micron rating on these filters indicates the smallest particle size that can be filtered out.
Beta Ratio filters require careful planning and are generally not recommended for most households due to their complexity.
Filters also come in three main types:
Depth filters use replaceable cartridges that can trap a wide range of particle sizes, but they need to be changed periodically.
Surface filters feature reusable filters with a pleated design, providing a larger filtration area than depth filters and making them a popular choice.
Absorptive filters are a newer option that can capture not only particles but also negatively charged particles and microbes smaller than the filter’s micron rating.
